Ukrainian judges took part in the 63rd Congress of the International Association of Judges

President of the All-Ukrainian NGO “Association of Judges of Ukraine” Korotun Vadim Mykhailovych — judge of the Civil Court of Cassation in the Supreme Court — together with Vice President of the Association of Judges of Ukraine Yevtushenko Olena Ivanovna, a retired judge of the HSSU, took part in the 63rd Congress of the International Association of Judges. The event was held online on 11—12 September 2021.

On the agenda of the meeting, in particular, was the issue of electing a new president of the MAS. He was José Igreja Matos, judge of the Court of Appeal of the city of Porto (Portugal), who previously held the position of vice-president of the International Association of Judges. The previous president, Tony Peigon, was nominated as honorary president of the International Association of Judges.

Members of the new Presidential Committee were Douro Cessa (First Vice-President and President of the EAS), Walter Barone (Vice-President), Allison Duncan (Vice-President), Marcel Quassy (Vice-President and President of the African Association), Sabina Matejka and Mickael Schobert EAS Vice-Presidents and Board Members.

The Secretary-General of the MAS since 2012, Giacomo Oberto was re-elected, along with three of his deputies — Daigostino, Garjolo and Acetino.

In addition, the International Association of Judges Congress accepted two new members — the Gabon and Philippine Judges Association.

Vadim Korotun noted that despite the difficult time for the world and the difficulties caused by holding the meeting online, it is important that it took place and the issue of further work of the MAS was resolved. “Cooperation within the framework of the International Association of Judges helps its members to strengthen the independence of judges, improve their professional qualifications and organize the exchange of experience between judges of different countries,” said the President of the Association of Judges of Ukraine.
