Report on the participation of members of the Association of Judges of Ukraine in the Congress of the European Association of Judges.

May 9 — 11, 2019 in the city. Copenhagen (Denmark) hosted the congress of the European Association of Judges. The All-Ukrainian NGO “Association of Judges of Ukraine” delegated its members to participate in the congress.

The congress was attended by: President of the Association of Judges of Ukraine, Judge of the HSSU Olena Ivanovna Yevtushenko; President of the Association of Judges of Ukraine Kyiv, Judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal Strizheus Anatoly Mykolaiovych; Member of the Board of the ACU, Judge of the HSSU Kafidova Olena Vasylivna and Judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal Onyshchuk Maksym Ivanovich.

The official opening of the congress took place on May 9, 2019 at the University of Copenhagen, with a welcoming speech by the Minister of Justice of Denmark, Mr. Seren Papé.

Speakers at the congress were: Thomas Stadelmann — Judge of the Supreme Court of Switzerland; José Matos — President of the Portuguese Association of Judges; Mikael Rusk Madsen — Professor at the University of Copenhagen; Trine Christensen — Secretary General of the International Amnesty Denmark; Danish politician Preben Bang Henriksen; Ms Marlene Vitter — Professor at the University of Copenhagen and Ms Margrethe Vistager — EU Competition Commissioner.

The main topic discussed at the congress was the independence of justice, protection, freedom and the danger of the rule of law in Europe. In Poland and Hungary, a resolution was adopted.

After the end of the session of the congress, an excursion to the Supreme Court of Denmark was organized for the delegates. The President of the Supreme Court, Justice Thomas Jordan held the reception, and Professor, Dr. Ditlev Tamm spoke about the history of the court.

Participation in international congresses of judges is of great importance, because it deepens the awareness of judges with international norms of law, strengthens interaction and communication between judges from different countries of the world.
